Student Body President

The President of UMDSGA embodies leadership, vision, and responsibility. As the highest-ranking officer, the President serves as the primary representative of the student body, acting as a liaison between students and UMD administration. This role demands a commitment to student interests, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead and motivate a team. The President is charged with setting the agenda for the organization based on what they want to accomplish and what issues they are seeing on campus. The President oversees all the operations of SGA, ensuring that all members and committees function effectively and efficiently. This position demands a high level of dedication, resilience, and a genuine passion for serving others. 

Student Body Vice President

The Vice President of UMDSGA is responsible for several key functions of the organization. Primarily, they must assist the President as needed in all matters pertaining to the organization. The Vice President sits on the consultative committees for the University Senate, helping decide what is presented to the different senates. The Vice President is also expected to handle onboarding and the logistics required to bring new members into the organization. Having strong interpersonal skills is essential for this position, as much of the job involves collaborating and communicating with other student government personnel.

Collegiate Senators

Senators represent all students within their respective college (CAHSS, CEHSP, LSBE, SCSE). They serve as the liaison between the student body and the faculty, staff, and administration within the college they represent. Senators are responsible for coordinating meetings with their Dean, attending virtual meetings for the Student and University Senates, and other duties based on the needs of their college. Some Senators organize Donuts with the Dean events each semester and some support their collegiate student advisory council.

Representatives at Large

Representatives-at-Large serve as the primary voice of the student body by asking key questions, providing valuable input in discussion, and promoting the opinions of their peers. There are fifteen (15) Representative-at-Large seats total, and they are responsible for pursuing action and change in the areas of campus they are most passionate about, such as academics, student life, community engagement, etc. Representatives-at-Large sit actively on internal and governance committees to plan events, provide policy feedback, and author resolutions.

Freshmen Representatives

Freshman Representatives serve as the primary voice of the freshman class by promoting the perspectives of first-year students through Congress and committee meetings. There are six (6) Freshman Representative seats total, and they work as a team to collaboratively develop and vote on initiatives aimed at improving the campus. Freshman Representatives sit actively on internal and governance committees to plan events, provide policy feedback, and author resolutions.

Graduate Representative

Graduate Representatives serve as the primary voice of the graduate student body by participating in Congress meetings and the Graduate Affairs Committee, which works to identify and combat challenges experienced by graduate students. There are four (4) Graduate Representative seats total, and they are responsible for pursuing action and change in the areas of campus they are most passionate about. Graduate Representatives.
