Representatives must sit on at least one committee. How will you work with your fellow student representatives and committee members to solve problems, raise awareness, or make changes at UMD?

I will work with my fellow representatives by attending the weekly meetings. I will talk with students and hear their concerns and collaborate with them. I want to prioritize student outreach because that is where a lot of miscommunications can happen between student government and the students.

Describe any leadership experience you have.

My most intensive leadership experience arose from being elected Regional Vice President of Jobs for America's Graduates Kansas (JAG-K), on top of being elected as local vice president for JAG-K. Within my school, I was twice a band section leader. I also was a publicist and director or recruitment for the Debate and Forensics team.

Describe the relationship between Student Government Association and the student body. Explain how you as a leader and a member of this collaborative organization might strengthen and/or maintain this relationship.

Our relationship as Student Government Association and the student body is to serve the students. As leaders, it is the bare minimum to uphold integrity. The SGA should always remain humble because even though we are in positions of power that does not make us better than any of the students. It is our job to serve the students who put us in our leadership positions. We can maintain our relationship with the student body by listening to their concerns and advocating for them if any issues arise. The decisions that the SGA makes should only have the students' best interests in mind.

Diversity of opinion is one of Student Government Association’s most important characteristics. In many cases, you will have individuals expressing opinions that are different from your own. How might this idea be beneficial when making critical decisions for the organization and the student body? How might you handle a situation like this as a representative?

Diverse opinions and perspectives are crucial for decisions and the student body. It is beneficial to hear all sides on a topic so we can make decisions that benefit everyone. If problems arise, I always want to find a solution and/or a compromise. Compromise can ensure that we move forward as a student body.

What is a song that you think describes you?
