What specific issues do you see at UMD?
The main issues I have seen are the job page and a lack of art on campus.
What is ONE specific initiative that you have and how might you go about pursuing it?
I plan on continuing my pursuit of improving and making the job page more accessible for everyone by charging the HIP committee to convince the UMN campus to make changes to it. I also will continue to push housing to install more murals across campus.
Representatives must sit on at least one committee. How will you work with your fellow student representatives and committee members to solve problems, raise awareness, or make changes at UMD?
I will work collaboratively with those around me to address problems as they arise and to charge ourselves and those around us to make changes when necessary. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the SL committee and bringing joy and to students across campus especially during stressful weeks.
Describe any leadership experience you have.
I am the current vice chair of the SL committee, a representative at large 2025-2026, and a freshman representative 2024-2025. I was the president of jazz and concert band, the vice president of national honors society, a senior lead of yearbook committee, and many others.
Describe the relationship between Student Government Association and the student body. Explain how you as a leader and a member of this collaborative organization might strengthen and/or maintain this relationship.
The relationship between SGA and the student body is vital to ensure communication between students and administration/faculty and to advocate for students' needs. To strengthen and maintain this relationship, I will continue to converse with students across various disciplines, colleges, and years to ensure their voices are heard and communicate their needs and concerns with those above me.
Diversity of opinion is one of Student Government Association’s most important characteristics. In many cases, you will have individuals expressing opinions that are different from your own. How might this idea be beneficial when making critical decisions for the organization and the student body? How might you handle a situation like this as a representative?
Varying opinions are essential to the growth and success of students across colleges, disciplines, and years. By valuing all opinions, we ensure the best decision can be made, with all students in mind, not just those in the majority. As a representative, I strive to treat everyone with respect, courtesy, and open-mindedness regardless of whether or not I agree with their opinion.
